Summer Fun With Electric Quilt

Electric Quilt has many wonderful opportunities to help quilters, of all levels, have fun this summer, as well as opportunities for kids to also have fun too!  To clarify, here are some opportunities for those that may not have EQ software, those new to EQ7, as well as those that are experienced with EQ7:

EQ BLOCK CHALLENGE:

First, EQ and Timeless Treasures are hosting a super fun challenge - EQ Block Challenge which features Tonga Cabana, a new line of fabric designed by Daniela Stout.  EQ7 users can download a FREE fabric collection for the Tonga Cabana fabric line.  Simply use EQ7 and the digital fabrics for the Tonga Cabana fabric line to design a block (can be original or a block from the EQ7 library).  No sewing required, just submit your digital entry by Thursday, July 31st.  And there are all sorts of yummy prizes (fabric, EQ books, EQ Stash).   Who is going to join me in this summer fun?

CLUB EQ MONTHLY CHALLENGES:

Every month, Barb Vlack hosts a EQ Challenge that helps participants build on their EQ skills and get inspired by seeing designs from all of the participants.  The July Challenge is to create a unique block and build a quilt design from that block.  All EQ users that join this challenge (and fun) will also receive project files from all the other challenge participants. Click here for more info on the monthly challenges.

GREAT SUMMER ACTIVITY FOR KIDS!

Kids love to create and of course, we quilters hope that all children will grow up learning how to quilt and appreciate the creativity process.  Quilt Design Wizard and Blockbase are two of many EQ software packages that are very reasonably priced (and on sale this weekend) that are easy to use and a good tool for kids to start learning the design process with EQ software.

Don't be surprised if you too want to sit and draw with your kids, using this software.  It really is fun for kids of all ages and a great way to enjoy the creative process.  Heck, I think this could even be a good resource for a Quilt Guild, or Quilt Shop to create a kids' based summer challenge!  Wouldn't that be a fun way to inspire the next generation?

DOODLE/SKETCHING:

EQ software also offers the opportunity for quilters interested in free-motion quilting (FMQ) to doodle/sketch out FMQ designs on paper, to plan how you might top stitch your quilt.  Simply create your quilt design in EQ7 (or other EQ Design packages).  Print out your quilt, or block design, to use to doodle your FMQ designs on  and plan your project.  While SewCalGal loves using fabrics to plan my quilt projects in EQ7, I recommend printing black/white quilt designs to use for planning FMQ on your projects.  These print outs make excellent templates for doodle/sketching!

And, Quiltmaker Quilting Designs can also be used within EQ7 to plan how you will top stitch your designs, as well as use these designs to mark your projects for your stitching!

NEW STASH COLLECTION:

Love new fabrics?  A new Stash collection has been released: Stash 2014 Download 02 has new fabric collections from Hoffman, Timeless Treasures, Moda and many other fabric manufacturers.  And the downloadable Stash collections are only $7.95 (better yet, they are on sale this weekend).

SALE:

And, to help make our summer super fun, as well as celebrate the 4th of July,  EQ has a 20% off site-wide sale (Excludes EQ7 and Migration Kits).  Use code STARS at checkout.  Sale ends Saturday, July 5th at midnight EST.

And, while SewCalGal loves all things EQ, here are a few items that have caught my attention in this 4th of July sale.
